Meet The Directors

Jon Carney
The Director of Bands at New Palestine High School since 2019, Mr. Carney earned his BME from Indiana State University in 2006 and his MM in Tuba Performance from the University of Illinois in 2008. He is a frequent adjudicator and clinician for performing arts events across Indiana, has presented at state level music education conferences, and is actively involved in curating the solo/ensemble and concert band suggested and required lists with the ISSMA Organization. Mr. Carney has served as a committee and state board member for the ISSMA Organization and is the current Performing Arts chair for New Palestine Community Schools. When time away from work presents itself, Mr. Carney is likely to be found traveling with his wife and children or on the golf course.

Drew Wilson
Drew Wilson has been the Director of Bands at New Palestine Junior High since 2017 and is the Associate Director of the Marching Dragons. Prior to becoming the Band Director at NPJH, Mr. Wilson taught at Pike Central HS for four years, and in Perry Township for nine years. He has also taught marching bands throughout the state of Indiana for the last twenty-plus years and was a member of the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps. Mr. Wilson is a graduate of Indiana State University where he was active in the trumpet studio and had many performance opportunities across the US and abroad. He has been a member of IMEA/NAfME and the Indiana Bandmasters Association (IBA). Mr. Wilson lives in New Pal with his wife Sara and three children; Amberley, Emmitt, and Reece.

Kyle Cantrell
Mr. Cantrell has been the Director of Jazz and Assistant Director of Bands at New Palestine High School and New Palestine Junior High since 2023. Mr. Cantrell holds a BME in Music Education and a BM in Jazz Studies from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Alongside teaching, Mr. Cantrell is an active musician who performs frequently around Indiana and the Midwest, and in 2024 released a debut album entitled "The Shifting Lens." Mr. Cantrell is also an experienced composer and arranger, having written and arranged works for a wide variety of small and large ensembles. Outside of music, Mr. Cantrell runs the D&D club at the junior high school and enjoys playing disc golf and board games with friends.

Justin Madren
Mr. Justin Madren is the New Palestine Percussion Director for both The Jr. High and High School. He attended Ivy Tech Community College, and also Indiana State University. Justin has been with the program since the fall of 2021. He has many things to offer with this experience in the marching activity and teaching. Prior to landing at New Pal, he taught at Vincennes Lincoln H.S. and Greenfield Central H.S. where he found success with two state championships and various other accolades. Justin has experience marching in WGI with Legacy Indoor Percussion and Veritas Indoor Percussion at eh World Class Level. As the Percussion Director, Justin has been growing the program with confidence and making a place where people are appreciated. He wants the kids to want and desire to be in the program because they have a love for it.

Paul Yoo
Paul Yoo is a color guard educator residing in Indianapolis. He is a graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University with a Bachelor in Music Education. Paul has marched with the Indiana University Marching Hundred, The Collective Independent World, the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, and Revival Winter Guard. He has taught color guards from a wide variety of age ranges and skill levels, with students showing competitive success in the ISSMA, BOA, CITSA, IHSCGA, MEPA, and WGI circuits. Currently, Paul serves as the color guard director at New Palestine High School, and also teaches and choreographs for other programs in Indiana. He is a member of the WGI Future Leaders Program class #4. Outside of color guard, Paul enjoys reading, exploring new cafes, and playing his clarinet.

Cora Murray
Cora Murray is a proud Alumni of the New Palestine school district and colorguard program. Cora currently serves as the Assistant Colorguard Director and the Director of the Regional A Winterguard. She has been teaching colorguard with the program since 2020. Outside of the performing arts, Cora works full time in ABA therapy and Early Childhood Education. In her free time, Cora enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
